PLAYBACK ENGINES DISCONTINUED
Regretfully, we no longer support VST3 hosting.
The Playback Engines operated at a financial loss due to quality limitations and ongoing challenges with VST3 integration. Although only a small portion of users relied on them, they required most of our development and support time — often due to VST3-related issues beyond our control.
To make VST3 playback more reliable for notation, we had planned for NotePerformer 5 to host VST3 plug-ins with closer integration. However, our planned solution conflicted with the end-user license terms of some VST3 instruments, and we had no choice but to withdraw the technology.
We also chose not to return to the model used in NotePerformer 4, as it had already proven financially unsustainable. That approach also raised legal uncertainties around the inclusion of VST3 presets, which are typically distributed under fair use but not with guaranteed clarity. For these reasons, we’ve discontinued VST3 support altogether.
We understand this change will be disappointing for some users. It was a difficult decision, made out of necessity and in response to circumstances partly outside our control. We kindly ask for your understanding that we are not able to share more details.
The Playback Engines extension is no longer part of our software. From here, we will be focusing our development efforts entirely on our own built-in sound engine.
If you previously purchased NotePerformer 4 engines, you may click here to downgrade to version 4.5.1 to continue using them (link). However, we no longer offer Playback Engines for sale, and the technology will no longer receive updates. Any VST3 issues must be resolved on the plug-in’s end. →
This download also includes the contents for the /Downloaded Engines folder as a .zip file, for continuity, in case the engines become unavailable for in-app download in the future.
